I was trained as a political scientist at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville and the University of Massachusetts, Amherst and taught college on and off for about 10 years. My areas of research interest were, and remain, international political communication and diplomacy, and American political communication and rhetoric.

I have also had an on-and-off again relationship with the labor movement and progressive politics. I worked for a short time as a community organizer for ACTWU in the 1980s. More recently I have done Web design and communications trainings for the Pennsylvania AFL-CIO, and have done some Web desing for Pennsylvania non-profits and political campaigns.

I also produce independent documentaries on political and cultural topics.
