Labor Day Blogswarm!
American Rights at Work, a "nonprofit advocacy organization dedicated to promoting the freedom of workers to organize unions and bargain collectively with employers," has called a blogswarm for this Labor Day. They're calling it "Take Back Labor Day," and simply ask that pro-labor folks agree to use their blogs or websites to write about what Labor Day really means on Sept. 1, 2008.
There's reason to believe that such an effort can have a good effect on the American psyche if enough sites participate. And from this corner it seems like this is a fine example of a simple way to use social media technology to help build the labor movement.
To participate in the initiative, just sign up at http://www.takebacklaborday.org and you'll receive email updates as Labor approaches.
Seems like a good idea. And the group behind the initiative seems trustworthy enough - with a board that includes John Sweeney and other labor luminaries, and former Congressman David Bonior at the helm.
