Prometheus Labor Communications Unbound
A dream of mine for several years---to work full-time helping unions communicate on the Internet---has now been realized. There is no doubt in my mind that communicating labor's message is absolutely key to the labor movement's survival. So, I recently stepped down from my paid position at the Pioneer Valley AFL-CIO and am turning my full attention to my newly launched business, Prometheus, http://www.prometheuslabor.com, which builds union websites. I'm very excited to have the chance to focus 100% of my attention and efforts helping unions do a better job to deliver their vital message to workers and the general public.
As I wrote in my first blog entry on the Prometheus site, I'm on a mission to prove that effective, high-quality sites don't have to be expensive. The only cost is a reasonable monthly site maintenance charge that even the smallest union can afford.
Now I recognize that, by itself, technology is not enough. More important is the mindset of labor leaders who wield (or ignore) the technology. Some leaders understand the implications of the Internet and the networked society it's ushering in, but most do not. There is still a huge amount of educating and change that needs to happen before unions fully embrace online communication. Be that as it may, you can't have a revolution without ammunition and I'm more than happy to help supply it.
So, I'd appreciate help anyone can offer in spreading the word about my free website offer. If you have knowledge of a union or labor-friendly organization that is in need of a website, have them contact me directly on my cell phone at 413-537-4451 or fill out the form at http://prometheuslabor.com. Thank you!
