Labor Tech Boston?
Submitted by Bill Bumpus on Sun, 05/07/2006 - 8:16pm
Seems to be some interest percolating out there in having a Labor and Technology conference in Boston sometime over the next year - and the Labor Resource Center at UMass Boston has indicated that they'd be interested in hosting such an event.
I'd be interested in hearing the ideas of folks in the CoD community about possible workshop topics. What do folks think of the agenda of the San Francisco conference?
There's also a list of workshops in formation for for the next Organizers' Collaborative on June 17th. Which of them might be of interest to a labor audience?

I like the idea!
I think early next year? January? One every quarter year?
As for the agenda, why don't we whittle away of some of the issues we talked about this weekend at LaborNotes - (link will be up soon).
Good to meet you in person! Best, Mark
agenda
Yes, I think it would be interesting to look at the Labor Notes material and compare it with the workshop schedules for the LaborTech and OC conferences.
January sounds like a good target to me - I guess the first thing to establish is what dates the facilities at UMass will be available. Maybe the weekend before classes start would work well.
Steve, what would you think of adding this as a subforum of the Projects forum?
Done.
I'll also put up a prominent link on the site.
Drupal
There definitely needs to be a workshop on Drupal. I'd volunteer to lead it.
Conference
I would like to see this conference pitched towards two types of labor folks. The first would be technical and administrative in order to network and exchange ideas but the other would be leadership, staff, organizers and reps, who may not be all that technically proficient but who are interested in what the tools have to offer for their work.
I would like to see this as an opportunity to dispel the fears of this second group and boost their curiosity. I would also welcome international labor folks and outside developers if they're interested in working with labor.
I suppose we'd be looking for a weekend (two days?) with some keynote speakers to dazzle the crowd. We need a working committee to flesh out the details.
I will volunteer to be on the committee
Count me in.
