Two minute guide to using RSS

If this survey is to be believed, very few of you out there know what RSS is (12%) and even fewer are actullay using it these feeds (4%). Given that the labor movement is woefully behind others, I'd estimate these numbers to be 3% and 1% respectively for labor movement type folks.

OK, so here is literally a 2 minute guide* to get you up and running and using RSS the simplest way I know how. No explanations, no BS. If you've got questions or are uncertain, ask them in a comment. If you don't know what RSS is, just put a little faith in steps below and know that in just 2 minutes you'll be a better, smarter person. Ready? Set, Go!

  1. If you're not using it already, download and install the Firefox browser.
  2. Using Firefox, come back to this story and then click here.
  3. Scroll down a bit and click "Install now".
  4. A box will pop up and after a few seconds, another "Install now" button to light up. Click it to install the RSS feeder.
  5. Once installed, close the Firefox browser down and then relaunch it again.
  6. From the Firefox menu bar, click View -> Sidebar -> Sage. Your RSS reader (called Sage) will display on the left side of your browser window.
  7. Navigate to the front page of Communicate or Die and click the magnifying glass in Sage to locate the RSS feed on the front page.
  8. When the CoD feed is found, click "Add Feed" to add "Communicate or Die" to your information diet.

Congratulations! You are now using RSS. Now go out and add other feeds so you can get information at your fingertips. If you still don't get it, ask away.
